Teaching and Learning

 

Pupils at Holy Apostles' are taught from the revised National Curriculum for 5 to 11 year olds in England. We seek to offer equal opportunity and access in all areas of the curriculum, and to provide a learning environment where each pupil can thirve and enjoy a high level of success.

Our aim for all pupils:

  • To develop an interest in learning.
  • To value the acquisition of knowledge and aspire to high academic achievement.
  • To read with enjoyment and understanding.
  • To write clearly and legibly, to express themselves creatively, and to begin to acquire English rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • To be able to perform simple number computations, to have an early understanding of shape, space and measure, and to classify information from diagrams.
  • To respect themselves and each other and work to contribute towards the common good.
  • To learn about the Christian faith and its roots in Judaism.
  • To have an understanding of some other religions of the world.
  • To develop an understanding of the past.
  • To be interested in our place in history and recognise the contribution made by key figures from the past.

  • To acquire factual knowledge about the world and begin to practice skills associated with the study of geography.
  • To question and hypothesise from previous learning in order to see the relevance of science in our lives.
  • To experiment and determine what makes a fair test.
  • To have a broad experience of computer hardware and software.
  • To be confident when using computers and to see their value in all aspects of work at school.
  • To appreciate works of art and to have a broad understanding of subject and style.
  • To have experienced a wide range of materials in art work.
  • To enjoy and participate in musical activities.
  • To make varied sounds, to follow a simple score, to criticise constructively.
  • To sing together and perform.
  • To expect to keep fit and healthy by taking regular exercise.
  • To play as a team and be admiring and tolerant of others' talents.
